QMUG/LAs Help Guide |
Sometimes you need more than just another web site to visit. *Some*times its nice just to pick up the phone and actually talk to someone, or to send out an e-mail message in the middle of the night and get a response by the next day! Here we try to give you alternate resources that may not be obvious from looking in the phone book or on the internet.
Apple Resources
Phone Numbers. You should have these numbers already, but just to be safe:
(800) 767-2775 Tech Support: the SOS-APPL number, lifetime toll-free, automated.
Customer Relations is now here, too; for warranty issues and complaints, ask to be transferred.(800) 500-7078 Tech Support: 90-day complimentary up-and-running toll-free
With the documentation and literature that came w/ your new Apple purchase came a Support Access Card, on which is this phone number and your unique and individual 12-digit Support Access Number, good from the date on your printed dated receipt of purchase, not from the date of your first phone call. If you do not have your Support Access Number, you will need your printed dated receipt, dated cancelled check, or credit card statement, so you can be issued a new one.(888) 275-8258 Tech Support: the Apple Value number, fee-based, live (800) 538-9696 Apple Referral Center: Resellers, Service Centers, User Groups near you!
Gay Resources
The Los Angeles Gay & Lesbian Center, if youre gay and in LA, is the place to go at least once. You can attend any number of discussion groups, get HIV tested, and even see a counselor about personal issues. Visit them at 1625 N Schrader, just east of Highland Ave and south of Hollywood Blvd, or call them at (213) 993-7400.
LA-MOTSS. Why isnt there an la.motss (an LA Members Of The Same Sex newsgroup)? Because theres LA-MOTSS (the mailing list)! To join, send a message to majordomo@langevin.usc.edu with subscribe la-motss in the body (text in the subject header is ignored). Mailing lists tend to be much more focused and spam-free than newsgroups.
Mac Resources
LAMG, the Los Angeles Macintosh Group, is the largest Macintosh user group here in southern California. Each monthly meeting draws about 250 Mac users, and various special interest groups meet practically each day of the week, and each May LAMG puts on MacFair LA, a mini-Macworld Expo for Los Angeles. For more information, visit their website at http://www.lamg.org, e-mail them at lamg@lamg.com (yes, .com), fax them at (310) 319-1827, or call them at (310) 319-1821.
Guy Kawasakis EvangeList is help of a different kind. Rather than on a personal level, My aqthbar is flashing. How do I stop that? (Set your Sound control panel to something greater than 0), it tackles the professional level, My department is going Windows. How do I stop that? (Get help from the EvangeList!). The EvangeList is a well-organized and searchable website, as well as a mailing list sending out a little digest practically everyday; for information on joining, just send a message to evangelist@macway.com.

If youre in LA and need help, youre probably not accessing this page, so in a turn of the tables here, the following couple of organizations could really use *your* help! And in return you really *will* be helping yourself, as well as your fellow Los Angelinos!
