............ Friends.  In the absence of a particular significant other, I am definitely thankful to have such a wonderful network of friends (and even co-workers), many of whom are not male.  I certainly wouldn’t be who or where I am today w/o them, and in return, I certainly try to be the best friend I can, be it help moving, help w/ their homework, lifts to and/or from the airport, etc.

............. My Dad.  And of course the most important man and friend in my life is my dad, whom I not only visited this past Thanksgiving, but who also visited me this past Christmas.  They were both good and busy visits, which gave me the chance to meet a few of his friends and reacquaint myself w/ his part of Indiana, and him a chance to meet some of mine and reacquaint himself w/ Los Angeles.

mz-misc ....... food.  We all have to do something to put food on the table, and I am particularly thrilled that I have landed the best job of my life so far.  For those who might not know yet, in July ’06, I began as a temp in the Grants Administration department of the California Endowment.  One of my duties is to ensure grant requests we receive are complete, and request any missing documents.

The position had gone through some turnover w/ several temps, so no guarantee was given regarding permanency, but within weeks everyone seemed to agree I was a good fit for the position, department and organization as a whole, and in October ’06, I accepted their offer to come onboard as staff w/ benefits, and it’s been one big birthday party, baby shower or holiday party after another since then.

In a nutshell, the California Endowment was created in 1996 when Blue Cross converted from a non-profit corporation to a for-

profit one.  The Endowment sits on ~$4 billion, of which it is required by law to give away ~5% or ~$200 million per year.  The Endowment has five regional offices (in Fresno, Los Angeles, Sacramento, San Diego, and San Francisco), and employs ~160 people.

........... clothing.  When I started working at the California Endowment, I only had six dress shirts, so it became quite a challenge to mix and match them w/ my five dress pants to not to appear to have such a limited wardrobe.  At the end of April ’07, I began replacing them w/ new shirts from Express and am now up to ~25.  I’m still looking for pants, but there’'s less stress about that.

............ shelter.  Lastly, for the longest time, I’ve had the idea of making my bachelor pad less of a bedroom and more of a den, and thanks to my job w/ the Endowment, I was finally able to afford to make it happen.  I had a little housewarming party in March ’07 to celebrate it, and most people who’ve seen it really like it.  Maybe by March ’08 I can post some pictures of it.  <hehehe>

Alright, well that sort of brings us up to date on me -- I hope that wasn’t too long of a slog for you -- so please let me know what’s new and exciting w/ you!  I hope the past year or two or three have been good for you, and that, of course, 2008 and beyond will be even better!  Keep me in the loop and let me know what’s going on!  And if you have any questions or need more info, don’t hesitate to ask!
