My General Phone Script

Hi! Could I speak w/ your User Group Relations people? (How ’bout your Special Promotions people? ...Public Relations people? ...Marketing people?) Hi! My name is Doan Stafford, and I’m calling on behalf of our user group which has a special event coming up we want to let you know about.

Yeah, we’re pretty excited. Our user group is QMUG/LA, and we’ll be celebrating our *4th* Anniversary this June! We were brainstorming on what we could do to celebrate it, to make it special, and we came up w/ what we think is a really great idea.

Well, we were thinking that four is not normally a special number, so we had the idea that maybe we could make it special “by association,” by drawing attention to Mac products that are also “4.0” and actively requesting them.

In exchange we would prominently feature them on our *4th* Anniversary page and advertisements, and encourage our members to, and give them reason to, purchase these products. The idea is that we could mutually celebrate and promote each other.

Yeah, and let me say that we’re not needing a “yes” right now, but we want to bounce the idea off of you, and let you check us out and our ad ideas, and if you like what you see, and we’re sure you will, then to of course join us in celebration.

In joining us, we’d like to offer up to four (4) options — the first three are for our “Four is a Fabulous Number!” raffle — and after I tell you these options over the phone, we’d like to also e-mail and fax you a formal letter so you can see what we’re saying in print.

1. We would be thrilled to accept one (1) copy of <<Possible Sponsor Product(s)>>. If for whatever reason you don’t feel comfortable about sending it directly to us, we’d be happy to accept a “voucher” instead and raffle *that* off, and let the winner can contact you and collect it directly from you, is one option.

2. We would also be thrilled to accept four (4) “user group” price coupons or discount coupons, like 10% or $10 or whatever off, for this particular product good for at least four months, ’til at least Sunday, October 4th, 1998-ish, to encourage our members to purchase this product, is a second option.

3. And, we would be thrilled to accept one (1) or four (4) product- or company-logoed t-shirt(s), mug(s), or other such items, to promote visibility of your product and company to our members, is a third option.

4. And lastly, we would be thrilled to accept one (1) company-logoed letter expressing congratulations and the importance of user groups to you for us to read out loud and to post on our wall.

Again, we want you to check us out first, and our ad ideas, and then if you want to send all *four* options, we’d be thrilled to accept them, or if you can only send one or two or three, that would be great as well...!

And, uh, we’ll be celebrating our *4th* Anniversary on Monday, June 8th, so we would need whichever options you choose by then. So, uh, whadayathink...?
