 QMUG/LA logo Brochure Text Comparisons

Back in April at our 4/25 QORE mtng at the Abbey I distributed an alpha of our brochure, and Loretta volunteered to clean up the text a bit. On 4/27 I e-mailed her the text of the brochure and on 6/08 she e-mailed back her edits. The formatting of that msg was a bit of a challenge for figuring out what changes were being proposed, so on 6/23 I e-mailed a suggestion for a fresh msg that might be clearer as to what the changes were, and on 6/29 she responded that the changes were primarily grammatical.

As much as I would love to adopt these edits w/o question, I needed to know what the changes were, and so I’ve created this simple two column table that compares these edits w/ the current text. The brochure and its text are completely liquid right now, but I’d like to freeze it in the next week or two. While I’d like to pre-announce our brochure at Mon’s general mtng, changes can be made up until next wknd or so. Pls review these columns and respond as to what needs to be merged into the current text.

Thanks!

> (1) What is QMUG/LA?

QMUG/LA is the Lesbian, Gay and Bisexual Macintosh User’s Group for all of Los Angeles. It is an officially registered and recognized Apple Macintosh user group that has been in existence since June 1994.

QMUG/LA exists:

* to provide a voice and a presence for Lesbians, Gays and Bisexuals in the Macintosh user community;

* to provide a social, business and technical, but not political, network for lesbian, gay and bisexual Macintosh users;

* to provide news, reviews, and commentary about anything in the Macintosh community that might be of interest to lesbians, gays and bisexuals;

* to learn and share tricks, insights and information with people we wouldn’t normally meet, and to make learning quicker for individuals via the group’s collective expertise;

* to provide “gay” software, such as desktop patterns, icons, sounds, etc., which is of interest to lesbians, gays and bisexuals;

* to provide help to lesbian, gay and bisexual community organizations using Macintosh computers by improving and upgrading their systems; as well as

* to just have more fun with our Macintosh users.

1 > What is QMUG/LA?

“QMUG/LA, the Lesbian, Gay and Bisexual Macintosh User's Group for all of Los Angeles,” is one of only two officially Apple-registered and recognized gay Macintosh user groups in the *world*, and has been in existence since June 1994.

QMUG/LA exists to:

(1) provide a voice for and a presence of Lesbians, Gays and Bisexuals in the Macintosh user community, and vice-versa;

(2) provide a social, business and technical network for lesbian, gay and bisexual Macintosh users here in Los Angeles;

(3) provide news, reviews and commentary about anything in the Macintosh community and Los Angeles in general that might be of interest to lesbians, gays and bisexuals;

and also to:

(4) learn and share tricks, insights and information from and with people we wouldn’t normally meet, and make learning quicker for individuals via the group’s collective expertise;

(5) provide “gay” software, that is, software of interest to lesbians, gays and bisexuals, such as gay icons, sounds, etc.;

(6) provide help to lesbian, gay and bisexual community organizations using Macintoshes improve/ upgrade their systems; and to

(7) just have more fun with our Macintoshes.

> (2) What does QMUG/LA do?

QMUG/LA has an informative meeting once a month, a big anniversary party every June, and the biggest Absolutely Fabulous Gay Software Review every December. There are also really cool planning meetings throughout the year for those interested in being more involved with QMUG/LA.

2 > What do you do?

QMUG/LA hosts one general meeting every month where we have Apple updates & community calendar, introductions, Tech Q&A, a prepared presentation, and sometimes even a raffle. The ultimate purpose of QMUG/LA is to get together and have some fun.

3 > Why a “gay” Macintosh group?

Because we wanted one, we wanted to have one, we wanted to be one. But then, gay practically equals Macintosh, anyway. For example:

Macintosh = creative,
Gay = creative.

Apple logo = six colors,
rainbow flag = six colors.

Apple’s marketshare = ~10%,
Gay population = ~10%.

Need we say more?

> (3) Do I have to be Lesbian, Gay,
>    Bisexual, or a Mac user
>    to attend?

Certainly not! Just as Macintoshes are very friendly to non-Mac identified people, floppy disks, files, printers, displays, etc., so are we at QMUG/LA. We welcome non-gay as well as non-Mac identified people.

4 > Do I have to be lesbian, gay
  > or bisexual, or a Mac user,
  > to attend?

Certainly not! Just as Macintoshes are very friendly to non-Mac identified people, floppy disks, files, printers, displays, keyboards, mice, etc., we at QMUG/LA are very friendly to non-gay and non-Mac identified people.
