In preparation for QMUG/LA’s *8th* Anniversary and Awards Ceremony, the QORE pretty much knew we would be pressed for time if every Certficate of Appreciation recipient wanted to give a significant acceptance speech, so the QORE offered all the recipients the option to e-mail us what they’d want to say and we would include them in our meeting handout.  Here are the feelings of one such recipient:

“Wow, time for another Certificate...  You blink, and another month goes by...  You blink, and another year goes by...  You blink, and *eight* years go by...  And what a wonderful eight years it has been... 

In the past eight years, I’ve had a number of jobs — from MacMall in Torrance, to the Apple Presales Center in Burbank, to Creative Computers in Santa Monica, and Earthlink in Pasadena — but the one job I’ve enjoyed the most has been this one right here, being QMUG/LA’s Co-Chair... 

In the past eight years, I’ve moved a number of times and lived in a number of places — from the edge of West Hollywood, to down near USC, to even way out in Palm Springs, and now in the Fairfax district — but the one place I’ve always considered home is right here, at a QMUG/LA meeting... 

For me, QMUG/LA gives me the perfect reason — the perfect excuse — to use my Mac and let my creative juices flow...  In my own personal life, I would have little to no reason to create and maintain an 800 page website, or to print up multi-page handouts from it, but because of QMUG, I do... 

I would have no reason to make 40 presentations, like the “History of Apple Computer,” “Printers & Printing,” and “Speech Technology,” or to use FileMaker and Photoshop to create these beautiful Certificates of Appreciation, their cover letters or envelopes, but because of QMUG, I do... 

And how is it, why is it, that I do this...?  Because I enjoy it, it’s fun, and it’s personally satisfying...  I’ve gotten to meet people I wouldn’t have otherwise met, and I’ve gotten to help people I wouldn’t have otherwise helped, and I’ve learned a lot about both Macs and people along the way... 

In fact, some of the best people I’ve met have been fellow officers and presenters of QMUG...  If you love your Mac, if you want an excuse to do even more w/ it and you like what you see here at QMUG, then consider being an officer or presenter, and you’ll see how much fun you can really have... 

So thank you QMUG for being my excuse...  Thank you Apple Computer for giving me a reason to need an excuse...  And thank you all of you for coming here and being here and enjoying your Mac right along w/ me...”
